Organ music for the 5th Sunday of Easter (May 10, 2020)
Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach: Adagio from Sonata VI

CPE Bach is the most famous son of Joh. Seb. Bach and like Graun (see video on Good Friday) belongs to the "gallant style". The sonatas were composed for Sister Friedrich II, Princess Amalie of Prussia. The Adagio of Sonata VI is very sensitive and filigree, which is why the chamber music chest organ by St. Peter with the wonderful flute 4 'was used for this recording. Four and a half minutes of rest that are worth it!

His works span a wide range of styles. The piece "Celebratio" is characterized by an almost continuous rhythm, over which the chords and the melodies build up to end in a great crescendo.

Gilbert M. Martin: Toccata Giocosa

Gilbert Martin is a widely used composer in the United States, mainly for choir and organ music. "Giocosa" can be translated as "fun / joyful". Accordingly, it is a joyful piece - and at the same time solemn. The continuous sixteenth figure brings a lively element over which the fanfare-like melody rises. In the middle part, the toccata experiences a little reassurance through the decrescendo and the melody in the pedal before the grandiose final part begins.

The video will be published on May 24, 2020.

Christian Heinrich Rinck: Prelude in C major

Christian Heinrich Rinck, the grandson of Joh. Seb. Bach was and was considered one of the best organists of his time, combining elements of baroque polyphony, classical and early romanticism in his composition style. This reflects his prelude in C major with his decidedly cheerful character. In the harmony of classical music it is obligatory in the echo effect and the small fugue in the middle part of the baroque style.
